Democracy works best if MPs are chosen by lottery

Parliaments work most effectively when their members are chosen entirely randomly rather than elected, according to Italian scientists.

The study by researchers at the University of Catania entitled ‘Accidental Politicians: How randomly selected legislators can improve parliament efficiency’ is published in the physics journal Physica A: Statistical mechanics and its applications.
