After bold announcements, funders must answer questions on open access

Research Councils UK says it hopes to agree the details of its open-access publishing system by September, but significant questions remain.

The body announced last week that it will provide block grants to institutions so that they can take responsibility for the costs of paying publishers upfront for research results to be made instantly free. All work funded by the research councils must be published with open access from April next year.
