Physicists win $3m prizes

Nine physicists have been awarded $3m (£1.9m) each by the Milner Foundation for working to achieve “transformative advances in the field”.

Founded by ex-physicist investor Yuri Milner, the Foundation awards the highest-value annual prize for scientific achievement. By comparison, last years’ Nobel prizes were worth around $1.2m (£0.7m) each.
