The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs invites applications for its role of payments for ecosystem services in climate change adaptation call.
The overall aim of this research is to provide a short evidence and analysis review that will be able to feed into both the payments for ecosystems services action plan and national adaptation programme. The specific objectives are to provide an overview of the potential use of payments for ecosystem services mechanisms for delivery of natural environment/green infrastructure solutions for climate change adaptation. The review should identify the specific barriers and challenges for PES that might exist in the context of climate change adaptation and to propose specific actions both for government and other stakeholders as appropriate. This should complement research work underway as part of both the programme of work on payments for ecosystem services as well as under the study on the economics of climate change resilience and that of the green infrastructure partnership. It is expected that the winning bidder will commence work in late October 2012 with a final report due by January 2013.
