The Society for General Microbiology has dedicated the August issue of its quarterly magazine, Microbiology Today, to a previous president, microbiologist Harry Smith, who died in December 2011.
The publication gives details of the society’s annual general meeting on 4 September at its autumn conference—for which attendance grants are available—and its ‘exchange programme’ awards for early-career researchers. Recipients will travel to Australia or the US to present their research and visit a lab for up to three weeks.
