Antarctic lake mission halted

A UK experiment to drill a hole into a sub-glacial Antarctic lake has been called off.

The team’s leader, Martin Siegert, a glaciologist at the University of Bristol, took the decision after the project failed to join a main borehole with a parallel hole to recirculate drilling water at Lake Ellsworth in western Antarctica.
