Cancer research institute director named

The Cancer Research UK Cambridge Institute has appointed Royal Society fellow Simon Tavaré as its director.

Tavaré, who will take over from oncologist Bruce Ponder in February, is a professor of applied mathematics and theoretical physics, and of cancer research at the University of Cambridge. His work focuses on probability and statistics in the biomedical sciences. He is also a fellow of the Academy of Medical Sciences.
