Cambridge University researchers scoop ‘Oscars for science’

Several UK-based researchers were among the winners of the 2022 Breakthrough and New Horizons prizes

Two researchers at the University of Cambridge in the UK were among winners of this year’s prestigious $3 million Breakthrough Prize for the “world’s top scientists”, renowned as the “Oscars of science”.

Shankar Balasubramanian and David Klenerman shared the 2022 prize in the life sciences category with Pascal Mayer of the deep-tech company Alphanosos for the “development of a robust and affordable method to determine DNA sequences on a massive scale, which has transformed the practice of science and medicine”.
