UK research managers’ association looks for next chair

Successful candidate to take over from Jennifer Stergiou at Association of Research Managers and Administrators

The Association of Research Managers and Administrators has begun the search for a new chair as Jennifer Stergiou approaches the end of her three-year term.

The successful candidate will serve as chair elect from August 2022 and will take over the role of chair from Stergiou from August 2023.

Arma said it was looking for an “inclusive leader who can build on the significant progress and achievements secured by their predecessor, and help Arma grow its membership, influence and impact”.

Core responsibilities listed in the job description include providing line management and support to the CEO, overseeing the performance of the organisation, working collaboratively with the CEO and committee chairs to establish the board’s agenda.

Desired skills for the position include the ability to lead strategy development and oversee Arma’s strategic implementation plan, the ability to communicate with a broad range of stakeholders, and being able to lead with “empathy and inclusion”.

Anyone interested in applying for the role is asked to send a CV and covering email to the association’s chief operating officer Hamish Macandrew.

The deadline for applications is 18 July and shortlisted candidates will be invited for interview.

“Serving Arma members as chair of the organisation is a huge privilege,” Stergiou told Research Professional News.

“I have had the opportunity to bring the research management voice to strategy, policy and process development at a range of stakeholder organisations, to support members in their research manager and administrator roles, and in developing for their next roles, and to work with an amazing group of volunteers and exec office staff.

“There is still a lot to do in my final year in post, but a key priority will be supporting our new chair elect so that they feel ready to take on the responsibility of chair in August 2023.”
