Study highlights lack of diversity in EPSRC-funded research teams

Edinburgh researchers show women underrepresented in senior research roles

There were no female researchers involved in 70 per cent of projects funded by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council over a 10-year period, and fewer than 15 per cent had a female principal investigator, a study has found.

Yasaman Sarabi of Heriot-Watt University and Matthew Smith from Edinburgh Napier University looked at the interactions between the gender diversity of the research team and the number and quality of the research papers produced by EPSRC-funded researchers in 9,961 projects between 2010 and 2019.
