Royal Society makes historical archive free to access

The Royal Society has made its historical archive of over 60,000 scientific papers permanently free to access online.

The archive contains papers dating back several centuries and includes the first ever peer-reviewed scientific journal—Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society. It also includes geological work by a young Charles Darwin and Isaac Newton’s first published piece of work.
