The Wellcome Trust is distributing £19.75 million in new funding among 23 UK universities over the 2011-12 academic year through its Institutional Strategic Support Fund.
The ISSF provides extra funds for institutions that already receive support from the trust for biomedical research, and each university is expected to provide matching funding.
