Many science and engineering students arrive at university without the basic mathematical skills needed to survive on their courses, a report by the Institute of Physics has warned.
“Mind the gap: Mathematics and the transition from A-levels to physics and engineering degrees”, prepared for the IOP by the educational research agency EdComs, blames the A-level system for these failings.
