Oxford University academic Wade Allison will challenge accepted wisdom on the safety of nuclear energy in a lecture at the Royal Society of Edinburgh on 5 September.
Allison, professor of physics and emeritus fellow of Keble College, Oxford, will produce evidence aimed at countering the widespread perception that civil nuclear power poses an “exceptional” danger. He will argue that “nuclear technology may be welcomed and used carefully to benefit the environment for the future without fear or excessive cost”.
