Society of Biology ready to fight science cuts

Following reports that the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills is discussing cuts to the ring-fenced science budget, the Society of Biology has released a statement saying it will act to support investment in science.

"The government has recognised the importance of science for society and the economy, and has been vocal about its commitment to maintaining investment," said a statement on the society’s website.

“The society has been active in encouraging and supporting these developments and continues to put forward the sound case for investment in science, and the importance of the stability of that funding to ensure long-term benefits and skill developments," it continued. “The society will be making this case strongly on behalf of our community”.
