Royal Society to reconsider election process after Prince Andrew backlash

The Royal Society is planning to review the way it chooses royal fellows after its decision to honour Prince Andrew was met with criticism.

Andrew’s election as a royal fellow was first questioned publicly by University College London pharmacologist David Colquhoun in a blog post on 3 May.

Andrew, the Duke of York, was elected for his “long interest in science and its applications, and his strong and active support of many of the activities of the society”. Royal fellows are recommended by the society’s governing body and include Princes Charles and Prince William.
