UK adults open to taking part in medical research

A survey of just over 1,000 adults has found that 60 per cent would be willing to participate in a medical research project that would require giving access to their medical records.

The finding comes as part of an Ipsos MORI poll, conducted on behalf of the Wellcome Trust, which surveyed 1,396 adults and 460 people between the ages of 14 and 18 to find out their thoughts on medical research.

The survey found 75 per cent of the adults to be highly interested in medical research, and a similar proportion said that members of the public should have some role in making decisions about the direction of medical research. A total of 40 per cent of the adults surveyed said they were concerned that not enough money is being spent on medical research.
