Funders look for evidence to support education fads

The Wellcome Trust and the Education Endowment Foundation have launched a research fund for scientists and educators to investigate education styles based on neuroscience.

The Wellcome Trust said in a statement that research funded under the £6 million programme could include analyses of commercially developed interventions such as the popular game Brain Gym, which is not based on peer-reviewed research, or the influence of trends in education that are not evidence-based, such as labelling students ‘visual learners’.

The fund is available to researchers and educators who wish to work together to develop evidence-based interventions for use in the classroom, and to test existing interventions.
