Medical research charities challenge HEFCE silence on partnerships

Charities should have greater recognition as partners in the research funding ecosystem, the Association of Medical Research Charities has said in its response to the Higher Education Funding Council for England's 2015-2020 draft business plan.

Speaking for “the medical research charity sector”, including the Wellcome Trust, Cancer Research UK and the British Heart Foundation, the AMRC’s response praises the HEFCE’s continued backing for the dual support system and quality-related funding, but expresses concern that the Charity Research Support Fund is not mentioned in the business plan.

“We would like HEFCE to acknowledge the important role of the CRSF in its business plan and to maintain its commitment to the fund,” the AMRC said.
