A reduction in university tuition fees for scientific, technical, engineering and maths courses is needed to encourage young people to fill a UK skills gap, according to business lobby group the CBI.
In its report Engineering our Future, published on 12 March, the group says that a skills shortage in STEM subjects is affecting UK businesses from the creative industries to advanced manufacturing.
The group also recommends gender diversity targets in universities, to boost the participation of women in maths and physics, and collaborative training solutions.
