Oxford doubles Wellcome Trust grant income

The University of Oxford received more funding from the Wellcome Trust in 2015 than at any other UK university, doubling its award income from £82.9 million in 2014 to £161.6m in 2015.

The total value of research grants awarded by the Wellcome Trust rose from £487m in 2014 to £673.1m in 2015, according to the trust’s financial report, published on 15 December.

The top three recipients of grant funding were the University of Oxford (£161.6m), the University of Cambridge (£59.4m) and University College London (£47.7m). The increase at Oxford included £63m for the renewal of major grants programmes in Vietnam and Thailand.
