Royal Society acts to address gender imbalance

The members of Royal Society selection panels will be trained in recognising gender bias after only two of its 43 University Research Fellowships went to women.

The Royal Society has been investigating the gender imbalance among award winners since the latest tranche of University Research Fellowship were awarded in September 2014.

Following the internal review, Paul Nurse, president of the Society, reported in a blog post that promotional material and application forms would be reviewed to remove anything that may put women off. The society will also publish profiles of successful candidates to give applicants an idea of who succeeds.
