First recruit signs up for national genomics project

Saint Mary’s Hospital in Manchester has recruited the first patient for the 100,000 Genomes project.

The project, organised by Genomics England, aims to collect and decode the genomes of 100,000 people in order to improve diagnosis and treatment for patients with cancer and rare diseases.

The recruitment follows on from the pilot phase of the project, which announced its first diagnoses earlier this month.
