The Royal Society of Chemistry is the latest scientific group to commit to intregrating with the ORCID system of researcher identification.
In a statement issued on 28 November, the RSC said that its partnership with ORCID would resolve ambiguity in researcher identification caused by name changes, cultural differences in name presentation, and the inconsistent use of name abbreviations that is too often a source of confusion for those who must rely on the published scientific record.
The RSC added that during the publishing process, it would automatically deposit publications to Crossref, which in turn will coordinate with ORCID to link and update the publishing activity on authors’ ORCID profiles, thus linking each published work with the correct researcher.
