The Royal Academy of Engineering has named the 13 winners of its 2016 Research Fellowships, each of whom will receive five years of funding.
This year, four of the fellows are women, a percentage increase on last year when two of the eight awards went to women.
The researchers will address issues including energy storage, electric aircraft propulsion and biomedical imaging.
