The Queen, accompanied by the Duke of Edinburgh, has officially opened the Francis Crick Institute in London.

On 9 November, the Queen unveiled a plaque to mark the opening of the institute. She was given a tour of the Crick by director Paul Nurse, and was also invited to press a button to begin sequencing Nurse’s genome.

In a press release Nurse said it was a “delight” to welcome the Queen to the institute, adding that he would find out the results of the genome sequencing in the coming weeks.
