The Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons has received a petition signed by around 1,000 of its members demanding that it stops vets prescribing homeopathic treatments to their patients.
The petition, set up by the Devon vet Danny Chambers on Change.org, had at the time of writing been signed by 2,770 supporters. Speaking to BBC News, Chambers said that of these, about 1,000 were British vets.
In his petition, Chambers said that the homeopathic principle was not backed by science. He referred to a 2010 Cochrane review and a 2010 House of Commons Science and Technology Committee report, both of which concluded that these remedies do not perform any better than placebos.
