Wellcome spends £13m to inspire the public

Five centres around the UK are to receive £13 million from the Wellcome Trust’s Inspiring Science Fund to promote the public understanding of science.

The centres to receive awards are the Aberdeen Science Centre, W5 in Belfast, Thinktank in Birmingham, At-Bristol and the International Centre for Life in Newcastle (above), the trust said in a statement on 29 August.

The Inspiring Science Fund  scheme is co-funded by the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy and Wellcome. It offers grants of between £150,000 and £3 million to not-for-profit science centres in the UK that have more than 30,000 visitors a year.
