The UK government and the Wellcome Trust have each committed £1 million to a global initiative to combat antimicrobial resistance.
The contributions are part of €56.5m (£52m) that has been pledged to the World Health Organization and the Drugs for Neglected Diseases initiative’s joint Global Antibiotic Research and Development Partnership.
The governments of the Netherlands, Switzerland, South Africa, Luxembourg and Monaco have all contributed funding, as has the transatlantic initiative Combating Antibiotic-Resistant Bacteria Biopharmaceutical Accelerator (CarbX).
