The Wellcome Trust, the UK’s largest charitable funder, is considering moving its 800 head-office staff to a four-day week to boost their welfare and productivity.

In a statement to Research Fortnight, Ed Whiting, Wellcome’s director of policy and chief of staff, said: “It will be some months before we can consider a formal decision and we’re carefully considering the potential impact it could have on both our staff and the external community.”

The Guardian reported on 18 January that Wellcome could start a trial of the four-day week in autumn and that the reduced working days would not result in a reduction of pay.
