Mike Turner, head of infection and immunobiology at the Wellcome Trust, will lead the charity’s science division as the former director of science ploughs ahead with a major review of the trust’s support for science.
Turner was announced as acting director of science on 22 January. He takes over from Jim Smith who is leading a review on how Wellcome funds science, including the disciplines it supports and who its partners should be. The review is not expected to make any changes until October 2021.
In the meantime, Turner will lead on all Welcome’s existing science programmes.
