£18m boost for brain tumour research

Research into brain tumours led by scientists at the universities of Edinburgh and Cambridge is to be funded with £18 million from Cancer Research UK and the Brain Tumour Charity.

The money, awarded to three teams, is the first to come out of the Cancer Research UK Brain Tumour Awards scheme, and is part of a push by CRUK to increase spending on research in this area by an additional £25m before 2022.

Neil Carragher will lead a team at the CRUK Edinburgh Centre that will investigate what drugs best target glioblastoma, the most aggressive type of brain tumour. This award is for £6.3m.
