The chief executive of the Association of the British Pharmaceutical Industry has announced his retirement.
Mike Thompson joined the group, which represents 68 companies, in March 2016 after 20 years with GlaxoSmithKline, where he was a senior vice-president.
He will be stepping down from the role at the end of 2019 after running the organisation during turbulent times involving Brexit issues, such as the departure of the European Medicines Agency from London, and increasing scrutiny of drug company transparency and medicine prices. Thompson described his time at the ABPI as an “extraordinary period”.
