Think tank calls for state assistance to push universities to become greener

A “moonshot” fund to help all universities become carbon neutral by 2035 should be set up by research councils and the government, according to a higher education think tank.

In its first ever paper on the topic of climate change, the Higher Education Policy Institute (Hepi) argued that UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) and the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) should establish a “moonshot” capital and revenue research fund to pay for the innovations needed for carbon neutrality in higher education.
