Academy responds to open letter calling for learned societies to engage more seriously with racism

The Academy of Medical Sciences has promised to take a “long hard look” at its internal structures and processes amid concerns over structural racism in research.

“We must engage with racism beyond statements, and without our staff and scholars of colour having to remind us to do so,” said its president Robert Lechler in a statement published on the academy’s website on 6 July.
