Inclusivity work ‘unacceptably slow’, admits Institute of Physics

Institute’s council says diversity and inclusion will be prioritised in governance review

The governing body of the Institute of Physics has met to discuss recent criticisms of its record on diversity and inclusion—some of which were reported exclusively by Research Professional News—ahead of its governance review.

The meeting follows an article signed by 21 academics last month urging the institute to adopt a top-down approach to tackling discrimination. A number of members of the institute subsequently said they would terminate their membership because they did not see its response as adequate.
