Professional body for IT says public policy algorithms must meet ethical and professional standards

Algorithms deployed for public policy must meet strict ethical and professional standards to recover public trust in light of the A-levels fiasco, according to the UK’s professional body for IT.

In a new report, BCS, the Chartered Institute for IT, recommends that the government support the institute’s ongoing effort to professionalise data science together with a range of partner organisations including the Royal Statistical Society and the National Physical Laboratory.
