Cancer charities: research funding could halve in 2020-21

Drop would amount to quarter of all public funding for cancer research in the UK

Plummeting incomes due to Covid-19 could see funding by UK cancer research charities fall by up to 46 per cent in the next year.

The National Cancer Research Institute polled 13 charities, 11 of whom said their research spending would drop, estimating reductions of anywhere between 25-100 per cent. NCRI says this could equate to an overall fall in funding of £61m to £167m.
