Job losses at the British Council as funding issues bite

CEO announces roles will be cut as Covid-19 hits finances

The interim chief executive of the British Council has said the organisation does not have enough funding to continue its current activities, and that job losses are now inevitable.

Despite an overall increase in government funding this year, a cut to one of its grants associated with a change in government priorities, alongside the impact of Covid-19 on its commercial income, mean the organisation will be pulling out of some countries and cutting jobs.
