Decline in students taking English literature also among concerns for learned societies

Two prominent UK learned societies have raised concerns about a drop in the numbers of students taking physics and some humanities subjects in school, including a “worrying” lack of girls choosing to study physics at A-level.

But there are also positive trends, such as boost in student numbers taking social sciences subjects, as well as more interest in science and engineering subjects more broadly.
