Open access

The government wants to better enforce the obligation to make results of publicly funded research freely available, science minister David Willetts said at the launch of the Innovation and Research Strategy for Growth. By 2013, research councils will invest £2 million in a database of council-funded research, the UK Gateway to Research, that may in future by extended to research funded by other organisations. Initiatives already underway to support open access include an independent review being led by Janet Finch, the former vice-chancellor of Keele University.
