Enterprise Zones bring foreign investment, says government

Swedish automotive company Haldex has announced that it will set up a European Technical Centre at the MIRA Technology Park Enterprise Zone in the midlands, creating 44 hi-tech jobs.

The company, which has annual net sales of nearly £400 million, will be working on the next generation of safety systems.

The UK government said, in an announcement on 27 November, that the investment was an example of substantial funds coming to the UK as a result of its Enterprise Zones initiative. Eric Pickles, the secretary of state for communities and local government said the zones had already brough in half a billion pounds of investment to the UK and created more than 4,600 jobs in just a year and a half.
