Oxford Nanopore divorces California biotech company

British molecular analysis and DNA sequencing company Oxford Nanopore has cut its financial ties with California-based biotech firm Illumina, which also offers products and services for genetic sequencing.

In an announcement made on 15 November, the company said that other investors had bought Illumina’s 13.5 per cent shareholding for £56.4 million.

The company also announced that on 25 November it would open up registration to its Minion Access Programme, which allows researchers to try its portable device for real-time analysis of DNA and RNA after paying a refundable deposit of $1,000 (£621).
