BIS announces £23m for medicines supply chain project

A collaboration led by GlaxoSmithKline and the Institute of Manufacturing at the University of Cambridge will explore clinical and commercial supply chains in the pharmaceutical industry.

The Remedies project, which stands for the Reconfiguring of Medicines End-to-End Supply, has received £23 million in funding from the Department for Business Innovation and Skills. It is part of an overall programme designed to improve UK supply chains, called the Advanced Manufacturing Supply Chain Initiative.

The project aims to address challenges in the pharmaceutical industry such as the ability of the supply chain to adapt to new technology. As well as collaborating with industry partners from equipment manufacturers to technology and system providers it will also have input from the University of Strathclyde and AstraZeneca.
