The government has announced the creation of an Energy Catalyst fund with initial funding of £25 million.
The fund is open to UK academics, research organisations and businesses. It is funded by the Technology Strategy Board, the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council and the Department of Energy and Climate Change.
Unlike most TSB collaborative research, catalyst-fund projects can be led by academics, not only businesses. However, the TSB announcement says it expects most projects to be led by businesses. The aim of the fund is to generate technologies, improve existing ones or innovate whole-systems approaches to energy, among other things.
