Mayor of London Boris Johnson has formally launched MedCity, a plan to generate investment in the life sciences and create a cluster of research companies in Cambridge, London and Oxford.
At a launch event on 8 April Johnson said he wanted London and the south-east of England to be the strongest life sciences hub in Europe, if not the world. He also stressed that “there needs to be more commercial ambition among scientists”.
He said there was a gap between the “genesis of an idea” and commercialisation and it was that gap that MedCity would help bridge by making it easier for companies to invest.
