Airbus to open £37m R&D centre

Aircraft manufacturer Airbus has announced it will be opening an aircraft-wing development centre at its Filton site, near Bristol.

The Wing Integration Centre, due to open in 2017, will be funded through a joint investment of £37 million, half from Airbus and half from the UK government.

The centre will bring together 300 engineers who are at present spread across Airbus’s Filton site. The government said it estimated that 900 R&D jobs in the south-west would be safeguarded by the facility.
