West Sussex plans health science park at Novartis site

West Sussex County Council has announced plans to purchase the site of the Novartis Institute for BioMedical Research and develop a business park for health and life-science companies.

The council announced it intentions to purchase the 20-acre plot from the pharmaceutical company Novartis on 7 January. Novartis abandoned the site in 2014 because of low sales to the NHS and difficulties in performing clinical research.

Louise Goldsmith, leader of West Sussex County Council said in a statement: “Our vision is to create a world-renowned centre of excellence building on the site’s respected history with Novartis.”
