Cornwall to host EU-funded wave energy project

Australian company Carnegie Wave Energy has been awarded £9.6m from the European Regional Development Fund to carry out a commercial wave-energy project at the Wave Hub test site off the Cornish coast.

Michael Ottaviano, Carnegie’s managing director, said that the Wave Hub, near Hayle on the north Cornwall coast, had been chosen as the home of the project because of the “unique advantages” that it offers.

Julian German, Cornwall Council’s cabinet member for economy and culture said that attracting Carnegie to Cornwall reflected the area’s long-term commitment to the development of “world-class testing facilities, wave energy resource, exceptional skills and an internationally recognised offshore renewables supply chain”.
