Innovate UK has launched two funding opportunities for business-led projects to help the UK government meet its goal of having driverless vehicles on the roads by 2021.

In a joint call with the Centre for Connected and Autonomous Vehicles, the innovation agency said it would allocate up to £15 million to business-led projects that use simulation and modelling to test driverless cars.

The funding is part of the government’s automotive sector deal, announced on 10 January. Autonomous vehicles are a lynchpin of the strategy, along with novel battery technology and low-emission vehicles.
